Where is this Setting
Far from the Forgotten Realms, a planet named Oerth was written by Gary Gygax to be one of many “Alternate Earth” concepts (his other versions were named things like Aerth, Uerth, Yarth) and for this reason it appears very similar to our world. Except, of course, that it has two moons and the sun curiously orbits the planet instead of the other way around.
Though it has four major continents, most published campaigns (including our current storyline) take place on the largest continent of Oerik, in the easternmost part called the Flanaess. It is here the great Free City of Greyhawk stands.
We begin in 576 CY (Common Year). It is a medieval time of castles and lords. Much of the world is uncharted and many mysteries still exist to be uncovered.
The People of the Flan
The Settlers that live in the “Flanaess are known as “The people of the Flan” – Originally mostly human, they have now grown to incorporate a wide range of people, factions and orders.
Among these are the swamp-dwelling Rovers of the Barrens, bands of horse lords known as the Wolf Nomads, the Knights of the Watch who protect against giants and dragons, the cabal of assassins known only as the Scarlet Order, urban dwellers of the Free City of Greyhawk, the legendary spellcasters in the Circle of Eight and warriors against Elemental Evil from the heroic Order of the Hart.
New temples to many a strange god, festivals, and traditions have developed in small communities and are just waiting to be discovered.
A Call to Legend

The land of the Flanaess is still recovering from a devastating blow 7 years past, in which a terrible evil force was brought down in the famous battle of Emridy Meadows. This left resources scarce and much to rebuild. Sadly, evil is still ascendant across the lands of Eastern Oerik. If something isn’t done to curtail the growing threat, the Flanaess will fall! Heroes are needed to bring hope to the people of the region. Adventuring parties from the Free City of Greyhawk and the surrounding nations trek across the vast wilderness of Oerik, slaying monsters and exploring dungeons to find magic and wealth they can use to defend their homeland and take the fight to their enemies.
As adventurers, maybe you will be one of The People of the Flan. Perhaps a relative or close friend fought in the Battle of Emridy Meadows? Have you heard the stories of that day?
