Highfolk and the communities of the Velverdyva Valley stand as a bastion of freedom and vigilance, cradled by the Yatil Mountains and the ancient Vesve Forest. Life here depends on unity through diversity: independence and tradition, tranquility and vigilance, progress and the primeval. Titles carry little weight; honor is earned by deed and shared through song. Magic lingers in quiet places, woven into hearths, hidden glades, and the memory of ancient trees.

Though peace holds within the vale, the forest beyond grows restless. Some whisper the wood is changing—watching. Those who come to this frontier may find purpose, opportunity, and prosperity if bold enough to brave the wilds—but beneath the Vesve’s shadow, elder powers stir. Tread lightly, speak true, and stand ready to earn your place in the tales to come.

Highfolk adventures will premiere at specific online events, giving players a chance to experience a whole narrative arc in a single weekend if you want to dive in and immerse yourself in the region, perhaps even making it the home for one of your characters. Currently, we plan to have two releases for Highfolk each year – one in April and a larger event in November, where our usual online offerings will shift to center this region and where we’ll have other activities, puzzles, announcements, and ways to interact with the unfolding story of the free lands.

Lead Designers

Jon Christian

Meet Jon Christian, Lead Designer for the Highfolk region in Legends of Greyhawk. With seven years of experience writing for systems like D&D, OSE, DCC, Mörk Borg, Mothership, and the Marvel RPG, he has also contributed to numerous Organized Play programs as both a writer and a lead. As the Lead Designer of the Vault of the Undying adventure series, he ushered his favorite setting into Adventurers League. While Dragonlance will always be his first love, he’s thrilled to explore Greyhawk’s rich lore and craft adventures that will delight and inspire both longtime fans and new players alike. And he promises—no kender.

Matt Dunn

Matt Dunn is excited to join the Legends of Greyhawk team as Assistant Lead Designer for the Highfolk region. He has played D&D and other RPGs on and off since the ’80s and has been part of organized play since the pandemic—including upcoming Ravenloft Dungeoncraft content for the Adventurers League. He loves lore and a good “meta plot,” and looks forward to helping DMs and players tell thrilling tales in Greyhawk. Matt has explored the setting since picking up OD&D Supplement I, and he has a soft spot for the Great Kingdom and its fiend-seeing throne, the realms “at the edge of the map,” and—of course—the Free Lands of Highfolk. Who knows if we’ll see Philidor and his globes in LoG: Highfolk, but fret not—Matt’s got you covered.

Highfolk Landscape

Welcome to Highfolk

Nestled between the ancient Vesve Forest and the peaks of the Yatil Mountains, the Free Lands of Highfolk stand as one of the last bastions of independence in the northwestern Flanaess. Its people (elves, humans, gnomes, halflings, and others) live not under the rule of kings or queens but by consent and community, bound by a shared respect for the wild lands that sustain them.
